Woman was walking home over wasteground
A woman has been raped after being attacked by a gang in west Belfast.

The woman left a social club off the Andersonstown Road shortly after 2300 GMT on Friday.

She was walking home over wasteground when she was struck on the back of the head.

Two men held her down while a third man carried out the rape.

Police have described the attacker as 6ft tall, aged in his 20s and with blonde hair.

Detective Sergeant John McDermott said it was one of the worst sexual assaults he has investigated.

"This was an absolutely brutal rape," he said.

"It is the first time I have personally come across an incident like this when three men have been involved.

"Two held the lady, while the third raped her. The lady has been left severely traumatised by the whole incident."
