Sunday, December 27, 1998 Published at 05:38 GMT World: South Asia Army chief says ULFA activities are down The Indian Army chief, V.P.Malik, says while the activities of the separatist United Liberation Front of Assam ULFA have decreased because of lack of popular support, the tribal Bodo separatist groups have stepped up their violence. General Malik said he was prepared to hold talks with the groups, but ruled out declaring a ceasefire.
