Sunday, December 27, 1998 Published at 22:48 GMT UK Man charged with pensioner murder ![]() Patrolling officers called firefighters A man has been charged with the murder of a 73-year-old retired pharmacist found beaten to death in his home on Christmas Day.
A post mortem examination revealed he had been beaten about the head with a blunt object and stabbed. He was last seen alive by his older sister in the evening on Christmas Eve. Mr Greenwell, who was single and had lived in the bungalow for 35 years, took early retirement at 60 from his job as a pharmacist for Boots the Chemist. The man who has been charged is described by police as being local. He will appear before Houghton-le-Spring magistrates on Monday. |
