Arafat in Cairo

The Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, is in Cairo for talks with the Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, on the latest developments in the Middle East peace process.

A spokesman for Mr Arafat said the talks would focus on the impact Israel's forthcoming early elections will have on the process.

Earlier this week the Israeli parliament voted to bring forward elections that were not due before November 2000.
