Keane contract talks on hold

Roy Keane (left) "Too many uncertainties"

Manchester United captain Roy Keane is stalling over a new pay deal that could keep him at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder was thought to be close to signing an £8m five-year deal last week

But the Sun quotes the player's adviser Michael Kennedy as saying that there were "too many uncertainties at the club for Roy to be discussing a new contract at this stage."

It is thought that Keane, 27, might want to hold on until the future of manager Alex Ferguson has been settled.

He is also likely to want to wait to see if the proposed £623m takeover over the club by BSkyB is concluded.

This could mean a delay of several months as the Monopolies and Mergers Commission is not due to rule on whether the deal can go ahead until March.
