I'm totally committed - McManaman

McManaman - linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs

Liverpool's Steve McManaman has sent a Christmas message to reassure fans that he will not be taking it easy with the possibility of a big-money move to Spain or Italy in the offing.

The England international, who could leave on a free transfer when his contract expires, insists he is fully committed to the club.

"I know there is a lot of frustration about my contract and I can understand some of the anger about it.. But to say I don't care about the club is totally untrue. Every second of every game I play for Liverpool I am totally committed.

"I can't sey yet if I will be definitely going because the decision is not finalised. But what I can say is that even if I knew I was going at the end of the season, I would never go out in a red shirt and not try."

The 26-year-old is back to full fitness after being sidelined by an Achilles tendon problem, an injury which he first suffered during the World Cup finals in France.

McManaman, who was linked with Barcelona last year, wants to play in the Champions' League but rejects suggestions that he could give less than 100 per cent for the rest of the season in a bid to avoid another injury, which could jeopardise his chances of a move.

"I have always said I would love the chance to play abroad and now that chance has come along. When you have a chance to join clubs who are involved in the Champions' League every season, you have to consider it," he said.

"I'm sure everyone must see the logic in that. The accusations that I am not trying really hurt. My demeanour may not be right for some of the fans because I am a laid-back sort of player. But believe me, I'm trying alright," he said.
