Belgrade paper accuses observers of bias

The Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti describes reports from the Kosovo diplomatic-observer mission (KDOM) as "subjective and strange, to say the least".

It says members of the mission "are closing their eyes to the terrorists gangs but are closely watching the police and the Army of Yugoslavia." Vecernje Novosti says the observers "stated without any proof in their last report, and citing the Albanian press, that Serbian forces are violating the truce by attacking some of the positions of the Kosovo Liberation Army".

The Belgrade daily says "they are still imagining that their vehicle is being shot at from armoured vehicles." "Such reports of the KDOM, or, to be more precise, the US observer mission, cast serious doubt on their current and even future mandate and involvement" in Kosovo.

Vecernje Novosti concludes that the members of the mission "are obviously doctoring their reports, adjusting them to the taste of their bosses in Washington."

BBC Monitoring (http://www.monitor.bbc.co.uk), based in Caversham in southern England, selects and translates information from radio, television, press, news agencies and the Internet from 150 countries in more than 70 languages.
