Indian minister urges foreign goods boycott

The Indian Defence Minister, George Fernandes, has urged people to boycott foreign consumer goods in an effort to help bolster the national economy.

Mr Fernandes said that a new national movement swadeshi should be formed to discourage the use of foreign goods wherever possible.

He told a student conference in Bombay that India should import only the goods it needs for its defence and development.
