New PM in Kyrgyzstan

The parliament of Kyrgyzstan has approved the appointment of a new prime minister.

Dzhumabek Ibraimov -- who was named by President Akayev to the top government post -- has headed the republic's property fund which is responsible for privatisation.

Earlier this week, the entire cabinet resigned after President Akayev accused it of incompetence in dealing with the country's worsening economic problems.

The dismissal of the government came soon after the arrests of several past and current deputy ministers in a corruption scandal.
