The head of the Cyprus Orthodox Church, has criticized Christian countries for tolerating the Turkish occupation of the northern part of Cyprus.
In a Christmas message, Archbishop Chrysostomos, said that the so-called Christian nations showed apathy and indifference towards the suffering of the Greek Cypriots, after the devision of the island a quarter of a century ago.
Meanwhile Turkish Cypriot officials say that shots were fired overnight across the line separating the two parts of the island at one of their sentry posts near Famagusta.
They say noone was injured.
