Friday, December 25, 1998 Published at 10:27 GMT World: Middle East Bin Laden calls on Muslims to avenge airstrikes on Iraq Formely called Afghanistan Bin Laden The militant Saudi Islamist, Osama Bin Laden, has said it is the duty of Muslims to kill American and British nationals in retaliation for the air strikes against Iraq. In an Arabic newspaper interview in the London-based AL-Sharq Al-Awsat Mr Bin Laden was quoted as saying the populations of these countries supported bombing Iraq, and should therefore be seen as in a war against Muslims. Mr Bin Laden -- whom the United States accuses of masterminding the bombing of two of its African embassies earlier this year -- again denied any involvement. But he said the attacks were justified because of what he described as American aggression against the Islamic world. The United States is offering a five-million dollar reward for the arrest of Mr Bin Laden From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
