Reports from Cairo say Arab foreign ministers are expected to meet there next week to discuss Yemen's request for an emergency summit on the bombardment of Iraq.

The Yemeni representative in the Arab League, Ahmed Luqman, said the summit was necessary as a boost to Arab unity in the light of recent events in the Middle East.

Yemen was one of the few Arab countries that opposed the US-led intervention during the Gulf crisis eight years ago.
