Food aid distributed in Afghanistan

Aid workers in Afghanistan are distributing two thousand tonnes of emergency food aid in the central Hazarajat region of the country.

The area had been identified by the World Food Programme as one of those most in need.

In some areas, harvests were down to a quarter of their normal yield due to crop pests and continuing fighting.

Clashes broke out again recently between the Taleban and forces of the the Hezb-e-Wahdat party in the region, and there is concern that the fighting will again disrupt food supplies.
