New state bill in Indian Parliament

The Indian government has managed to introduce its bill in the lower House of parliament to carve out a new state, Vananchal, from the northern state of Bihar.

The bill provoked protests from two opposition parties the Rastriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party, which twice forced the adjournment of the House.

An attempt on Tuesday to introduce the Vananchal Bill was stalled by the two parties.

Two other bills aiming to create the new states of Uttaranchal and Chattisgargh from the existing states of Uttar Pradesh and Madya Pradesh were introduced yesterday.
