The head of German railways Johannes Ludewig says the police have arrested a man suspected of trying to extort around $6m with threats of sabotage to the railway network.
He said the man was arrested overnight.
The threats delivered under the name of Friends of the Railway had caused widespread disruption in major cities.
Airforce planes and spy satellites were used to make sure there had been no sabotage and passengers were safe.
