Thousands of travellers across northern India have been left stranded as heavy fog led the authorities to suspend flights indefinitely from Delhi airport.

Correspondents say few Indian airports have the technology to enable planes to fly in poor visibility.

Weather analysts say the blanket of fog, which has spread over northern India over the past eight days, could last several days longer.
