Brazilian kidnappers continue fast despite sentence cut

A Brazilian court has reduced the sentences of a group of prisoners convicted of kidnapping a millionaire businessman in 1989.

The court cut their prison terms by ten years, to between fifteen and eighteen years.

But a spokeman for the prisoners - five Chileans, two Argentines and a Brazilian - said they were determined to continue a hunger strike, now in its 37th day.

The foreigners want to be sent home; the Brazilian wants his sentence quashed.

Two Canadian members of the kidnap gang were transferred to a jail in Canada last month.
