Paraguayan consul faces fraud charges


Paraguay's former honorary consul in Switzerland, Gustavo Gramont Beres, has been extradited to Geneva to face charges connected with a one-hundred-million dollar fraud and forgery scam.

Mr Gramont Beres is accused of using official Paraguayan documents to obtain loans from Swiss banks for industrial development projects.

Mr Gramont Beres was Paraguay's honorary consul in Geneva from 1979 to 1989.

He is now being held at a prison in Geneva awaiting trial.
