Dragnet for Indian jungle bandit

Police in the southern Indian state ofTamil Nadu say they've intensified efforts to try to capture one of India's most wanted men, known as Veerappan.

Hundreds of police officers are searching heavy jungle near Karnataka, following a raid by Veerappan on a police station on Sunday in which weapons were seized.

Veerappan has in the past offered to surrender in return for an amnesty, but the authorities say he must face trial for the murder of more than a-hundred people, kidnapping and racketeering.
