Higgins heads rankings

Higgins - won the game's top two titles in a a triumphant year

John Higgins will go into 1999 with an emphatic lead at the top of snooker's world rankings.

The Scot, who won the World and UK titles this year, is on 35,720 points - 11,980 clear of second-placed Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Mark Williams has moved up to seventh after lifting the Irish Open last weekend, while six-times world champion Steve Davis - a first-round loser last week - slips down to 18th.
