Sky Blues chief faces FA charge

Noel Whelan of Coventry outpaces the Wimbledon defence

Coventry City chairman Bryan Richardson has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following alleged remarks to a referee.

Richardson spoke to match official Steve Dunn in his dressing room following the game at Wimbledon on December 5, which the home side won 2-1.

The FA decided to act after Dunn mentioned the incident in his official report on the game.

Coventry were angry that the Bristol official turned down two penalty appeals by them during the match.

Coventry manager Gordon Strachan said at the time: "In my 25 years in football that was the first time my chairman felt he had to go in and see the referee after a match."
