Tokyo market report

Tuesday close

Tokyo shares suffered sharp falls and the market finished below the key 14,000-point level for the first time in more than two months as banking stocks continued to suffer.

The benchmark Nikkei index closed down 382 points, or 3%, at 13,779.

The index was more than 3% lower at one point. March futures were off 320 at 13,680.

Concerns that the Financial Supervisory Agency may be about to release details of problem loans of the country's big banks gave investors the jitters.
