Taleban-UN talks inconclusive

Talks between the United Nations special envoy to Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, and a senior Taleban leader, Moulvi Wakil Ahmad Muttawakil, are reported have ended inconclusively.

Iranian television quoted Taleban sources as saying the talks, in Islamabad, broke down because Mr Brahimi did not offer anything new.

The two men were discussing problems between the Taleban and Iran, and the work of aid organisations in Afghanistan.

There are no other reports of the outcome of the meeting.
