Storms leave homes without power
Car crushed by a tree
Many of the problems have been caused by fallen trees
Thousands of households are still without power across the East Midlands after the weekend storms.

More than 20,000 homes are still thought to be without electricity after winds of up to 80mph lashed the area.

Travellers also faced a day of delays and frustration with train services heavily disrupted.

Midland Mainline and Central Trains both advised passengers to allow an extra hour for their journeys.

No power

Across Derbyshire and East Staffordshire about 9,000 homes are still without power.

So far more than 30,000 people in Leicester and Rutland have had their supply reconnected but another 3,000 currently remain without.

Nearly 12,500 homes are still without electricity in Lincolnshire.

Some GNER trains from Leeds to London were also cancelled.

999 calls

Strong winds also meant disruption to the roads in the region.

Emergency services were inundated with calls and recorded one of the busiest Sundays in more than a decade.

Thousands of people called to report blocked roads and trees falling on buildings.

Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Police forces each reported around 500 more calls than usual.

All major roads in the region had been cleared of debris by Monday morning and the Highways Agency was working to finish removing the branches and trees that had fallen on minor roads and lanes.
