Murder victim made 999 call
Murder victim Paul Shaw
Paul Shaw was "a bit of a loner"
A dying man's 999 call for help, could lead to a breakthrough in the hunt for his killer, say detectives.

Paul Shaw from Whalley Range died from a single bullet wound to the chest in the hallway of his flat in Govind Ruia Court, Wellington Road, Whalley Range, Manchester.

On Friday police said they were examining the tape of the call the 35-year-old made to the emergency services.

A motive for his death on 27 September, has still not been established, but detectives suspect he knew his killer.

He was very quiet and gentle and was no threat to anyone, and he wouldn't have harmed anyone

Paul Shaw's father Frank

Speaking shortly after his death Detective Chief Inspector Keith Dillon said: "Paul was known to use drugs, but we are not sure if this has anything to do with his death.

"So far we have been unable to find any reason for Paul's murder, but we do think that he knew his killer."

Mr Shaw's father Frank described him as "a bit of a loner".

He said: "He was very quiet and gentle and was no threat to anyone, and he wouldn't have harmed anyone.

"We never expected him to die this way, and there was no reason for it."
