Dramatic recovery by attack victim
David Whitcher
David Whitcher, 18, is a keen muscian
An 18-year-old who suffered serious head injuries in an attack last month, is to return to work after making a full recovery.

David Whitcher from Goring was celebrating a friend's birthday when he was attacked outside Bar Med in St Ebbes Street, Oxford, on 22 September.

He suffered a fractured skull and spent 10 days in a coma, but has now made a full recovery from his injuries.

Doctors now want to study his case as it is very unusual for someone to make a full recovery from such injuries so quickly.

He has made a full recovery; he is the old David that we knew

David Whitcher said: "I definitely think I'm lucky to come out unscathed - when you think what could have happened and how long I could have been in hospital.

"I think I'll be a bit wary going to Oxford, but I think I'll go again."

John Whitcher, David's father said: "He has made a full recovery. He is the old David that we knew.

"He hasn't changed in any way. All I can say is that we're lucky to have him back.

"The day he left hospital, we took him down to the intensive care unit to show him this is where he spent 10 days that he knows nothing about.

"Some of the nurses were in tears, so overcome with emotion that the person they had seen lying there motionless, was now walking on his own and talking."
