Mugged pensioner dies in hospital

A Plymouth pensioner who was mugged earlier this month has died in hospital.

Patricia Hughes, 81, had her bag snatched as she walked home from the shops on Mutley Plain.

She was attacked in Wilderness Road in Mutley in the early evening of 5 October.

Two Plymouth men have appeared in court in connection with the mugging.

Family informed

Mrs Hughes was pushed to the ground and had her bag taken.

She was taken to Derriford Hospital in a shocked state, but collapsed while there and fell into a coma.

Mrs Hughes died in hospital on Thursday night almost three weeks after the attack.

Police say her family and friends have been informed.

Two men, both aged 30, were arrested in connection with the incident a week after it occurred.

Steven Daw and Anthony Robson had their case sent to the Crown Court by city magistrates.
