Police officer in Kingston Crescent
The man was shot close to Fratton police station
A man has been shot by a motorcyclist as he walked close to one of Portsmouth's main police stations.

The shooting happened at about 0600 BST on Friday near Fratton police station in Kingston Crescent.

The victim of the shooting, who is a 51-year-old Turkish national living in Portsmouth, suffered injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening

He is in a stable condition at the Queen Alexandra Hospital at Cosham under police guard.

It is believed that he was shot by a man on a motorcycle who sped off from the scene immediately afterwards

Hampshire Police

Police later recovered a motorcycle and a handgun believed to have been used in the drive-by shooting.

They were found in undergrowth off the eastbound slip road from the A27 to Eastern Road at Farlington.

Kingston Crescent, parts of Kingston Road and London Road in the city remain closed while police carry out investigations.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said they received a call at 0615 BST on Friday saying there had been a shooting.

Black motorcycle

Officers said a struggle between two men also took place nearby at the same time as the shooting.

Police spokesman Kevin Briscoe said: "The man was shot as he walked along Kingston Crescent towards London Road.

"It is believed that he was shot by a man on a motorcycle who sped off from the scene immediately afterwards.

"The black motorcycle had side-by-side headlamps that were on full beam.

"Officers would be keen to hear from anyone who saw a struggle between two men in Kingston Crescent at the relevant time on Friday morning."
