Police in Glasgow have had a "significant response" to a television appeal for information about the murder of a businessman four months ago.

Alexander Blue, 41, died after he was attacked on the doorstep of his home in the west end of the city on 25 June.

The case featured on the BBC's Crimewatch programme when a reconstruction focused on Mr Blue's last known movements.

The police said they now have a number of new lines of inquiry to follow - and wish to trace four men seen in the area.

Mr Blue died in hospital two days after he was found outside his home with serious head injuries.

His colleagues have put up a £25,000 reward for information about his death.

The Crimewatch reconstruction showed Mr Blue's last movements, which included a visit to the Beanscene café in Cresswell Lane, as well as his business at the Taxi Centre in the Hyndland area.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said the phone lines for information about Mr Blue's murder had been busy since the television appeal.

"There has been a significant response and there are a few new lines of inquiry which the inquiry team are following up," he said.

Mr Blue's mother, Kathleen, gave her first interview since her son's death.

On seeing her son in the hospital, she told the Crimewatch programme: "I just held his hand and told him that everybody was well and they all loved him."

There are four people police are trying to trace in connection with Mr Blue's death.

The first was a man seen standing on Dundonald Road at about 2215BST the night before the murder.

The next was a muscular man who was seen leaning on a black 5 series BMW at the nearby Conservatory Road.

The third was a smartly-dressed man in his 50s, who may have stopped to listen to some shouting.

Strathclyde Police have released an e-fit of the fourth man seen some days before the murder coming out of Mr Blue's flat in Dundonald Road, Dowanhill.
