Afghanistan aid worry
The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, has said the money pledged so far by the international community to rebuild Afghanistan is not enough.
Speaking to the BBC, Dr Abdullah said most of the money is being spent on emergency humanitarian aid and not enough of it is being used for reconstruction. He described Afghanistan as a country of unique opportunity, big hopes and enormous challenges, but said support from donors needed to be maintained and enhanced. He said the security situation in Afghanistan had improved a great deal since the start of the year, but he added that the success of Islamist parties in recent elections in Pakistan was a cause for concern. Dr Abdullah is in London for a conference on Afghanistan's future, one year on from the original Bonn conference that tackled how the country could be rebuilt.
