Mother pleads for cancer son
The mother of a young man from Rutland is appealing for bone marrow donors to come forward after her son was struck down with leukaemia for the second time.
Ian Jenkins, 20, from Braunstone in Rutland, had a bone marrow transplant in 1998 and seemed to be getting better. But in July he had a relapse and now needs a second marrow transplant. Ian's mother Linda says the deterioration of his health is putting a heavy strain on the family.
'Nasty' attack on shopkeeper Detectives in Leicester are hunting a group of men who attacked a shop worker and damaged the property. It happened just after 1900 BST on Tuesday night at a shop on St Saviour's Road. Several men assaulted one of the workers, in what has been described by police as a 'nasty' incident. The victim received minor injuries and the shop fittings were damaged. Witnesses have been asked to contact the police.
Tory leader's feel for communities The Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith has been visiting charity workers in Leicester. He has been to the Adhar Project in Highfields, which provides support to Asian people who care for patients with mental health problems. Mr Duncan Smith said he wanted to get a feel for what is going on in local communities. |
