Tractors star in mucky video

Tractors have proved a big success in a new video
A Devon farmer's vintage tractors are the surprising stars of a video which is selling worldwide.

More than 3,000 copies of an hour-long video featuring old Ferguson tractors have been snapped up by enthusiasts from as far afield as the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

A second video showing the tractors carrying out other tasks around the farm is out at the end of the month.

The videos were shot at 53-year-old Harold Beer's Great Shortridge farm in north Devon.

It is not just the tractors people like - they also enjoy looking at the Devon scenery.

That is where the three Ferguson tractors bought by his father between 1949 and 1956 are still in working order and are sometimes used.

His collection of about 50 implements, designed by tractor designer Harry Ferguson to work specifically with his farm vehicles, is thought to be one of the largest in the country.

Mr Beer, who has a 600-acre, mixed farm said: "The popularity of the videos surprised everybody.

"It is not just the tractors people like - they also enjoy looking at the Devon scenery.

"People are very interested in how farming was carried out in the 50s," said Mr Beer, who added that a third video is planned for next year.

Roger Smith, proprietor of Old Pond Publishing in Ipswich, which produced the videos, admitted: "It did catch us by surprise how popular the video was."
