Bollywood star granted bail
Salman Khan
Salman Khan: Facing homicide charge

A court in the Indian city of Bombay, or Mumbai, has granted bail to Bollywood star Salman Khan in connection with a hit-and-run case involving the actor's car.

One person was killed and four others injured in the accident, which happened last month.

The actor, who is charged with culpable homicide, has been in custody since the end of September.

The court's decision to grant Salman Khan bail has not come without conditions.

He has been asked to pay surety of $400.

The court has also asked the actor not to contact any of the witnesses in the case or tamper with evidence in any way.

Salman Khan has also been asked to surrender his passport to the police and told to seek permission before travelling abroad.

But neither the defence lawyers nor any of Salman Khan's friends and members of his family were complaining as the actor's bail plea was accepted after earlier being rejected three times.

Charges

Police have filed several charges against Salman Khan, the most serious being culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

He has also been charged with rash and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

His lawyers have denied the charges.

Police say the actor also did not have a valid driving licence at the time of the accident.
