Gun crime under fire
Police in London
Police made six arrests during the operation
A six-month operation by the Metropolitan Police targeting gun crime has led to six arrests, although only one was weapon related.

Seventy police officers, some of whom were armed, took part in the operation in north-west London on Wednesday night.

The Met used its new camera system which recognises numbers plates and checks them against a database of suspected criminals.

Six arrests were made - one of which was for possession of an offensive weapon.

Police have said the operation in Brent was a success as gun crime in the area is now at its lowest level since records began.

Chief Inspector Mick Smith told BBC London: "Because its been quite quiet I think that's quite a positive message that members of the local community, or from outside it, who are carrying firearms or weapons have the message that we are going to proactively deal with those individuals."
