A Londonderry teenager and taxi driver who helped a woman who was attacked at knifepoint are to receive top bravery awards.

Daniel Anthony Allen, 16, was stabbed during the incident in April when a man attempted to hijack the woman's car.

Both Daniel and taxi driver Anthony Gerard Nash, who wrestled the man to the ground and held him until police arrived, are to receive the Royal Humane Society awards for their bravery.

The vellum testimonials have been signed by society president Princess Alexandra.

The teenage boy was getting off a bus in Derry city centre when he saw the woman being attacked.

The 42-year-old woman was sitting in a parked car when the man, armed with a knife, approached and threatened her.

He ordered her to get out of the car and as she tried to do so, he grabbed her by the shoulder and stabbed her in the left arm.

The teenager went to the woman's aid and then chased the attacker.

During a struggle, he was stabbed in the right thigh.

The attacker ran off but was apprehended by the Daniel, who was helped by Mr Nash and held until police arrived at the scene.
