Funeral held for attack victim
John Evans
John Evans died five months after the attack
The funeral of a man who was left brain damaged after being beaten up during a night out took place on Thursday.

John Evans, 40, from Pencoed in Bridgend, died on 14 October, a day after his attacker was jailed for grievous bodily harm.

We are in consultation in relation to whether further proceedings will be instigated

Police spokesman

He had been left immobile and unable to speak after being subjected to a "rain of blows" from Peter Bryne during an argument over a missing mobile phone.

Mr Evans, who worked in the post room at BBC Wales in Cardiff, suffered a fractured skull and a haemorrhage following the attack.

The funeral was held at Coychurch Crematorium, Coychurch, Bridgend at 1500 BST.

Bryne, 24, from Cefn Glas in Bridgend, was jailed for two years at Cardiff Crown Court after he admitted the attack on Mr Evans.

Mr Evans died in the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend just after midnight the next morning.

Police have said it is possible that Bryne may now face further charges.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We are in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to whether further proceedings will be instigated."
