Leicester City staff sacked
Gary Lineker at Leicester's Walkers Stadium
Gary Lineker is leading a rescue consortium
Leicester City Football Club is making up to a quarter of its non-playing staff redundant.

On Tuesday, the High Court appointed administrators Deloitte and Touche to take over the running of the club.

Now chief executive Steve Kind and director of operations Charles Rayner have been released with immediate effect.

It is also thought that up to 30 other staff have lost their jobs.

A consortium led by former England captain Gary Lineker is hoping to take over the running of the club.

It is due to announce its plans for the future at a news conference at 0930 BST on Wednesday.

Complex finances

The Foxes have been hit by financial trouble since their relegation from the Premiership earlier this year.

Last week they agreed a wage deferment package with players to ease their problems. But they are thought to be struggling with debts of about £30m.

Administrator Nick Dargan said the club's financial position was complex.

He said he welcomed the news that at least one consortium was expressing a desire to invest in the club.
