Psychic 'solves' battle riddle
Braveheart celebrated the life of William Wallace
Psychic Uri Geller is planning to take to the air to confirm his belief that he has solved one of Scotland's greatest mysteries.
He said he was "pretty sure" that he had pinpointed the location of the Battle of Falkirk after visiting five potential sites. However, the 55-year-old paranormal expert said he wanted to return next month to tour the area by helicopter. The battle between the armies of William Wallace and Edward I of England, which took place in 1298, was featured in the Oscar-winning film Braveheart.
Edward, who was seeking revenge for the humiliating defeat his army had suffered at Stirling Bridge the previous year, eventually prevailed. Thousands of soldiers died, but there are no mass graves and only a couple of bodies appear to have been officially buried. Mr Geller was approached by John Walker, the chairman of the Falkirk Local History Society, after he helped discover the location of a wrecked prototype submarine. "It occurred to me that, if he could do that, why not have a go at the Battle of Falkirk mystery?" said Mr Walker. Stormy weather Mr Geller said he had watched Braveheart in an attempt to recapture the spirit of the time and wore a tartan shirt to "get closer" to Scottish culture. He also spent months studying the battle before travelling to the area on Tuesday. He had planned to search for the site by helicopter, but was foiled by the stormy weather which affected large parts of the country.
"Now I have been out there I am pretty sure that I have found the spot," said Mr Geller. "I need to come back and visit the site again from the sky just to make sure. "I need to see sites like this from above because it is there where I feel a real surge, like a laser beam, when I know I am in the right place." He hopes to return next month in an attempt to confirm his suspicions. Brave individuals The psychic, who recently featured in television show I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here, is working for free on the project. "It is very important to Scotland and England that this fascinating site is found," he added. "There are thousands of Scots and hundreds of English there and we owe it to these brave individuals to find their skeletons. "I believe we will find this mass grave though I know many historians will dispute what I say. But they will see that these skeletons will be found."
