Bradford students lobby MPs
Student protest
Students have taken their protest to London
A delegation of students from Bradford will lobby MPs on Wednesday, over the 'financial crisis' facing those studying at the city's university

Students' Union officers will tackle MPs from the city and other constituencies about controversial funding changes planned by the government.

Access to university should be determined by your academic ability, not your bank balance

Mandy Telford - NUS President
Proposals, including the introduction of top-up fees, have been put forward by Whitehall in the Higher Education Funding Review, which is due out next month.

Academic Affairs Officer at the Students' Union, David Curran, said: "The vast majority of students across the UK are forced to work long hours in paid work and their grades are suffering."

NUS president, Mandy Telford, said: "The message from the student movement is clear - access to university should be determined by your academic ability, not your bank balance."

She added: "Able students are being put off by the hardship they are forced to endure at university."
