Sniper
Scene of bus stop shooting
The sniper appears to have struck again, this time the victim was a bus driver in Maryland close to Washington. After the premature euphoria when two men were arrested and then found to be entirely unconnected with the shootings, the police are getting increasingly desperate.

We reported from the United States on another day when schools had to be closed, and the residents of Washington's capital's suburbs faced the possibility of another attack at any time.

Booker Prize
The winner of the Booker Prize was announced just before we went on air. We spoke to him.

Ivory Smuggling
Newsnight revealed one of the largest ivory smuggling conspiracies since the trade was banned. We talked to the African countries who argue that the blanket ban has outlived its usefulness.
