An international air show in India

About a-hundred firms from seventeen countries are taking part in aninternational air-show in the southern Indian city of Bangalore.

The show was opened by the Defence Minister, George Fernandez, but correspondents in Bangalore say the crowd's enthusiasm was dampened by poor weather, which prevented a flying display by Russian Sukhoi and French Mirage fighter jets.

There's little American participation in the air show, as a result of the sanctions Washington imposed following the Indian nuclear tests in May.
