Monday, December 7, 1998 Published at 19:04 GMT World: Africa Rwanda wants talks to end Congolese war The Rwandan vice-president, Paul Kagame, has called for a negotiated settlement to end the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a BBC interview, he said neither side could win a total victory. Mr Kagame said Rwanda had intervened in the Democratic Republic of Congo because of concerns for its own security -- and that once these were addressed it would have no business continuing to fight. Rwanda, accused by the Congolese government of supporting the rebels, is one of least six African countries now militarily involved in the Congolese war. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
