Ugandan president's brother resigns

The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has accepted the resignation of his brother, Major General Salim Saleh, as his senior adviser on defence and military affairs.

General Saleh has admitted playing a role in an illegal deal to secretly buy a large stake in the country's biggest commercial bank the Uganda Commercial Bank.

The BBC correspondent in Uganda says the resignation could not have come at a worse time for President Museveni and his ruling National Resistance Movement.

Donor nations are meeting in Kampala this week to work out aid allocations for Uganda for the next three years and corruption is high on their agenda.
