More clashes in West Bank over prisoners' release

Palestinians demanding the release of prisoners held in Israeli jails have again been involved in rioting in the West Bank.

The demonstrators clashed with Israeli troops and in some cases with Palestinian police.

There are reports that a mass hunger strike by the prisoners themselves has now spread to more Israeli jails.

Israel last month released two-hundred-fifty prisoners as promised under the latest peace accord with the Palestinians.

But the Palestinians protested that more than half were common criminals rather than political prisoners.
