Prosecutors in Sicily have questioned a local art collector who has been detained on charges of trafficking in archaeological artifacts worth more than fifty-million dollars.
The man, Vincenzo Cammarata, was one of six people arrested; the others include two university professors.
Prosecutors believe the gang organised the purchase of archaeological objects dug up illegally from sites in Italy and Sicily.
These would then be sold to collectors in Europe.
