From pop to president?

Ronan Keating (second from left) wants to be Irish president

Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating wants to follow in the footsteps of Dana - and run for the Irish presidency.

The heartthrob singer reveals his ambition in the new issue of OK! magazine, where he is interviewed with his pregnant wife Yvonne.

He said: "If Dana can do it, so can I. I'd love to give it a go. I think I could be a good ambassador for this country."

Yvonne, 24, said: "I think he has the love of the country and the people that you need to enter politics."

Ronan, 21, has a while to think about his ambitions though - current president Mary McAleese still has six years of her term left.

Singer Dana was a surprise entry in last year's Irish presidential election. Running under her real name of Rosemary Brown she finished third behind the candidates from the major parties.

But Ronan still has a successful pop career - Boyzone's latest single I Love The Way You Love Me entered the UK charts at number two last week. And his TV career is expanding - he hosts a new talent-spotting show, Get Your Act Together, on BBC One in the New Year.

Meanwhile, the happy couple said their baby - due in March - will be called Marie if it is a girl, in tribute to Ronan's mother who died this year.

If it is a boy, it will be called Jack after Yvonne's grandfather, Ronan added.
