Coventry chairman facing FA charge

Manager Gordon Strachan says he will support his chairman

Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson could face a Football Association misconduct charge over comments made to referee Steve Dunn.

Richardson confronted the official in a dressing room after his team's defeat at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Dunn confirmed he had included Richardson's comments in his report to Lancaster Gate.

City's 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park keeps them deep in relegation trouble, and the chairman was understood to be furious about penalty appeals being turned down.

Coventry manager Gordon Strachan, no stranger to criticising officials himself, admitted that the news was a surprise.

"In my 25 years in the game I have never known a chairman go into a referee's room before.

"My chairman did that and I'd back him up. He was an angry man. Things happened that were not punished."

The FA will study Dunn's report before deciding whether Richardson has to appear in the dock.

Dunn said: "I cannot comment but can confirm I have included Mr Richardson's comments in my report."

An FA spokesman would only say: "We will await the referee's report on the game."
