Ugandan president's brother resigns over corruption charges

The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has accepted the resignation of his brother from a key government position.

Major General Salim Saleh yesterday Sunday offered to stand down as advisor on military and defence affairs.

He has admitted playing a role in an illegal deal to secretly buy a large stake in the country's biggest commercial bank.

It's the second time Major General Saleh has been forced to leave public office.

In 1989 he was retired due to a conflict of interest between his government work and business interests.

In a brief statement, President Museveni said his brother's resignation was part of a struggle to rectify mistakes creeping into the ruling National Resistance Movement.
