Chinese activist faces trial next week

A leading Chinese pro-democracy activist, Wang Youcai, is to go on trial next week.

Mr Wang's wife, Hu Jiangxia, told the BBC he would be tried in the eastern city of Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province on charges of inciting the overthrow of the state.

Mr Wang was among a group of activists who announced the formation of the China Democracy Party last June, coinciding with President Clinton's visit to Beijing.
