Health GP in court again as 10th body is exhumed ![]() Dr Harold Shipman faces eight murder charges Family doctor Harold Shipman, charged with murdering eight of his female patients, has been committed for trial. Dr Shipman from Hyde, Greater Manchester, was committed for a crown court trial for the murder of three former patients: Winifred Mellor, 73, Bianka Pomfret, 49, and Joan Melia, 73.
Earlier on Monday, police exhumed a 10th body in the ongoing investigation into Dr Shipman. The body of 75-year-old Sarah Ashworth from Hyde, who died in April 1993, was exhumed from Dukinfield cemetery, Greater Manchester. On Tuesday, Dr Shipman will be at Liverpool Crown Court to plead to a charge of murdering 81-year-old widow and former mayoress Kathleen Grundy. He faces an additional charge of forging her will. Dr Shipman has also been charged with murdering Ivy Lomas, 63, Marie Quinn, 67, Jean Lilley, 59, and Irene Turner, 67. The body of former patient Alice Kitchen was exhumed last month, but Dr Shipman has not been charged in connection with her death. |
